Chris has shown a small improvement but there is a long way to go.

Radio Times: Alice faces an anxious wait. Meanwhile Josh won’t forgive and forget.

Characters: Alice, Ben, Brian, David, Jennifer, Josh, Pip, Susan

• Alice has forgotten that it’s Mother’s Day. Her current job is being very sympathetic. Brian points out these things can bring out the best in people. Brian drives her to the hospital again.
• Ben and Josh are cooking Mother’s Day lunch but Pip hasn’t bothered to turn up to help. When she finally arrives she tries to make out that the main thing is she is there. But David has none of it. At least she is going to have to do all the clearing up. Ruth doesn’t realise anything is wrong though.
• When they get to the hospital, Susan is there but they won’t let them see Chris, though they’ve been told not to worry. When they see him he has at least been put back on the earlier method of ventilation so there is an improvement, although a small one.
• Later Brian and Jennifer talk about the job. Jennifer says that if she is offered it she would have to turn it down. But Brian thinks she should hold on. They might be able to wait a bit and if Chris dies, she might want a new start. Jennifer is horrified.
