  • True to his word, Alf has accompanied Clarrie to church but she has soon had enough of his talk of family and forgiveness. Clarrie confronts him about the theft of her £20; she doesn’t have much but she would willingly share it with her family and that includes him, but he must not steal it.
  • Helen assures Henry that she will not send him away; they will always be together. Henry’s question “and daddy?” goes unanswered. When she gets downstairs it is to find that Ursula has gone with no chance to say goodbye. Rob piles on the guilt.
  • As Helen leaves a message for her midwife, opting for a hospital birth, Rob returns and confiscates her car keys. She should have taken the anti-depressants; she must be protected from herself. Time for another phone call …
  • Alf seeks out Clarrie to apologise: he took the money and he is ashamed; he betrayed her trust; after all these years estranged he has messed it up; it won’t happen again. She agrees not to tell Eddie.
  • The Helpline counsellor does her best to put Helen at ease. Her husband has taken her car keys away and he says things. There has been no violence, well only once. One night – more than one actually – he forced her to have sex. She gets cold feet; she is making things sound worse than they are; she doesn’t need support. Hearing Rob come back (again!) she terminates the call but not before the counsellor gives her an id number. When Rob enquires about supper she recommends that he makes it; she is going to lie down. Bravo!
