Clarrie probes but neither Fallon nor Ed give anything away.

Radio Times: Clarrie tries to unravel the mystery.

  • Gentleman of leisure? Brian assures Lilian that he has plenty to occupy him, notably Hungary, though with an acknowledged capable manager on the spot, that shouldn’t be so absorbing. However, he is not too busy when the much-wished-for call from Adam comes.
  • Clarrie is helping Fallon at The Bull but her inevitable questions are deftly side-stepped.
  • Nature is not Matt’s favourite subject just now, with newts needing a doubtlessly expensive alternative habitat and Pip keeping a watchful eye on skylarks – what a waste of time and money. Maybe his mood is in part due to anxiety about tomorrow’s interview with Social Services, though he would never admit it. He just wants to discover whether his birth mother is alive and ok. That’s all.
  • It’s a quiet night, so Fallon can plausibly encourage Clarrie to finish early. Not so fast! Clarrie wants to get to the bottom of what went wrong between Fallon and Edward and discover whether there is anything she can do. Fallon begs her to leave it; anyway, Ed is the one with the answers.
  • After two hours on the grain dryer, Brian is shattered and complaining that he had not expected to spend his evening in that way. His long-suffering wife reminds him to be careful what he wishes for; he wanted to help and he has, so he should stop complaining.
  • Clarrie is tenacious and when Edward comes in, phase two of the inquisition is launched. She admits to getting nothing from Fallon beyond “ask Ed”, but Ed doesn’t want to talk about it either.
