Daphne just has to be found; Ed seems to be on the way up.

Radio Times: Joe faces a crisis, and Roy is mystified.

Characters: , , , ,
  • Eddie admires Ed’s newly refurbished and very “yellow” pickup truck, bearing the legend “Ambridge Shearers”. Work is slowly coming in for the forthcoming season but Ed has had no luck in sourcing a tractor at the right price. Eddie offers to give it the once over when one does turn up.
  • At Grey Gables, Lynda and Roy discuss the rehearsals for Messiah. Lynda isn’t singing though, she has more of a “facilitation” role on the day! Eddie turns up and is told by Lynda that Ambridge Hall’s insurers have given the go ahead for him to prepare to clear some of the flood debris.
  • Eddie discovers Joe wedged under the bed in his room. He’s looking for Daphne, the ferret, who escaped while Joe was having breakfast! Eddie is flabbergasted, Caroline would be horrified to know that Joe was keeping the animal in his room. They must find it.
  • Roy meets Ed at reception and listens to an improbable yarn as to why he is carrying a fishing net. Anything to do with a ferret we wonder? He then takes a call from the resident of room 215, near to Joe’s room, who reports scratching noises coming from the skirting board. He goes to investigate and Ed makes a sharp exit.
  • Minutes later, Roy discovers Ed, Eddie and Joe trying to gain access to room 216, apparently attempting to track down the source of the scratching noise. The family has, after all, many years of pest control experience. They manage to talk Roy into letting them in to the room. Joe manages to keep Roy outside by feigning a sprained ankle.
  • In reception, Lynda takes a call from room 201. A rat has been spotted! Meanwhile, Eddie “catches” a field-mouse in the bathroom of room 216. The hotel’s problems are over. There was no rat, only a mouse. Roy stays to tidy up and the Grundy crew disappear. A mouse … really? Well, no. It’s only Eddie’s rolled up sock in a plastic bag. There is no sign of Daphne. The hunt continues.
