  • Daniel has taking up boxing. Shula wishes he’d chosen something else. He is also studying conflict in the Middle East on which Jim has strong views! He’s back at home but is going camping at Loxfest with Jamie. David is clearly very depressed; Ruth puts it down to tiredness due to calving. But she admits that it might also be that they may not get a bridge for the farm if the road does go ahead. Apparently they aren’t automatically entitled to the compensation they decide is right for them.
  • Eddie is taking on some milking for Ed so that he can do some cultivation at Brookfield. One of the cows is due to calve. David doesn’t know that Ed is standing in but he is pleased anyway. Ed admits the herd is still proving tough – no new customers or Mike isn’t trying to find them.
  • Shula tries to convince David that it will all be fine though he isn’t keen on trusting everything to a butterfly. She also tries to convince him to go to Loxfest but he is far from convinced.
  • Jill wonders if Brookfield could sell milk in the same way as Ed which David thinks is rather improbable. Jill thinks that the robotic parlour might help with finding them more time for marketing. David loses it. It won’t be the same farm and they may as well give up.
  • Edward goes back to Keeper’s after his shift to check on the heifer. Eddie offers to feed him and Ed initially resists but finally agrees. Ed falls asleep and Eddie starts the calving but Ed finds him and helps. The heifer is fine. Eddie then convinces Ed to sleep on the sofa at Keeper’s rather than disturb Susan and Emma – they won’t even know he’s missing.
  • Ruth tells David he should be more reasonable with his mother. He admits he’s fed up with hoping for the best. There is no good way to manage the farm if it is split and it is the uncertainty that is causing the problems.
