David takes responsibility for the IBR outbreak but Ruth can’t forgive Pip for the lies.
Radio Times: David and Ruth reach a decision, while Brian has reason to celebrate.
Characters: Brian, David, Jennifer, Jill, Lilian, Pip, Ruth- David is trying to cheer Ruth up but doesn’t seem to be getting very far. She is still being the same whiney cow that she has been, forgetting that it is her and David’s fault for bringing in the IBR to the farm. David says they’ll have to offer full compensation to Bridge Farm and Home Farm but Ruth doesn’t see how why Pip should get away with it. David thinks it’s the only way, Pip is the future of Brookfield. Ruth suggests that they shouldn’t be specific but that they should all admit they made mistakes and should take their share of the blame.
- Brian is thrilled at the departure of Lilian. He can restock his wine fridge while knowing it will still be there at the end of the week. Jennifer says she will be missing her – she did liven things up. Brian is happy with the quiet life. And then, as if by magic, Lilian reappears with a suitcase. Brian is horrified! But she has only come back to collect some stuff and her wine….. But that’s another tease. Lilian and Jennifer have a catch up. Being back in her beautiful house with the man she loves makes it feel as if it was meant to be. Justin is such a different kind of man to Matt. He won’t let her down.
- David explains to Pip that Brookfield is going to take responsibility and Pip won’t be blamed. Pip says that makes her feel even worse. Ruth will never forgive her. Jill interrupts to say she has made an apple cake which causes Pip to rush off in tears. Jill says they can’t let this go on.
- Brian is expecting a visit from David. David tells them they are taking full responsibility. Brian asks about the change of heart but David won’t say why. They’ll pay it back in full. Brian is a bit puzzled but David says they just need to work it out and they will pay. Brian comments on the cost of the tractor and says he will help out with equipment if needed. These rows don’t help anyone.
- Jill tries to talk to Ruth about Pip. But Ruth doesn’t understand how David could forgive Pip so easily. Jill says that, as a mother, she would feel let down by her children too. But Ruth did say some awful things. That she was ashamed of her. Ruth says she does still feel ashamed of her for the lies but she is proud of her too for who she is. Jill says Ruth needs to reach out to her, to try to heal things. Ruth agrees but doesn’t think she can. Not yet.
