Ed’s avoidance of Emma is good news – for Susan; Mike’s avoidance of Clarrie is getting obvious.
Radio Times: Brenda learns the power of advertising.
Characters: Brenda, Emma, Mike, Pat, Susan, Tom, Tony- Ambridge were lucky to beat Hollerton, according to Tony; when Mike suggests that is sour grapes on his part, Tony puts it down to him needing cheering up – fishing perhaps.
- Emma is not hungry; she still cannot understand it. After all they have been through together in the caravan – happy days – how could Ed say the things he did. Susan tries hard to conceal that this is a better result than she could possibly have hoped for. Could Emma honestly have made Ed happy? It’s best to accept the situation and move on.
- Tom is annoyed: he had planned to take Brenda out for lunch after he had done the sausages but Brian has stolen Maurice, their butcher, to do the venison – so lunch is off, dear.
- Pat, who is not so biased against Ed as Susan is, thinks that he has done rather a grown-up thing. Bumping into Mike, she encourages him to take up Tony’s invitation, on the pretext that it would be good for Tony.
- Helen is another one who needs cheering up. Brenda invites her for a drink but she is “washing her hair”. Brenda reckons that Tom needs to expand his business to break free from the evil Brian, so she offers to be his (initially unpaid) marketing manager.
- Tony finally catches up with Mike; the fishing plan is agreed in principle and they head for The Bull to check out the new carpets. But when Mike discovers that Clarrie is behind the bar he suddenly feels the need of an early night.
