Eddie and Lilian resort to secret drinking together. Mothers’ Day treats are planned for Ruth.
Radio Times: Sid ensures that charity begins in The Bull.
Characters: David, Elizabeth, Lilian, Nigel, Pip, Ruth, Sid- At Brookfield, Bert has volunteered to help with the hedge planting, though it is a long way off yet. Preparations are in hand for Izzy to come and stay this evening. Pip is organised and is going to make a Mothers’ Day card for her mum; she will like that. Eddie is doing the morning milking on Sunday, so Ruth will get breakfast in bed. Lunch at The Bull would be a good idea if David hasn’t left it too late.
- At The Bull, Sid is ready with his quiz; Nigel and his glamorous assistant are ready for the wine-tasting. Eddie has a cunning plan: he has bought a ticket to the wine-tasting and appears with an ice-bucket to serve as a spittoon. Cunning? yes. Cunning enough? no; Clarrie will have none of it.
- Lilian is fed up with orange juice and Eddie is also at the end of his tether. He has another plan: Lilian should meet him outside in half an hour.
- David is in luck: there is a free table for Sunday lunch thanks to a cancellation.
- Eddie and Lilian agree that they are fed up with abstinence and wish they had never started it. So a little drink every so often, just between the two of them will not do anyone any harm. Eddie has some lager, so it’s 1, 2, 3 and down the hatch. Oh bliss!
