Eddie is still trying to get Clarrie’s approval for a drink. Joe plots to sabotage Lilian’s abstinence.
Radio Times: Eddie is forced to toe the line.
Characters: Alistair, Clarrie, Eddie, Elizabeth, Joe, Kathy, Nigel- Eddie is very inventive with reasons why he can and should have a drink today. Clarrie says no. Thursday is his birthday, so surely … Still no!
- At Lower Loxley, all hands are busy setting up a temporary shop in the gallery, giving Kathy the opportunity to try out some of her ideas. Alistair calls to confirm that Nigel’s cow is not in calf – just too well fed.
- After an afternoon of gardening, Clarrie is pleased when Eddie comes home with a bunch of daffs – and a tale about sugary drinks rotting your teeth; Clarrie offers to buy him a toothbrush; she will not budge.
- Nigel is dithering over the label for his wine: the line drawing they had settled on looks rather dull compared to a colourful abstract design. Asked for her opinion, Kathy chooses the abstract one – putting Nigel in a quandary again.
- On top of being kept without a drink, Eddie finds himself paying to take part in the cricket club’s table-top sale. Alistair is keen to persuade Sid to reinstate the wine tasting: he had decided he was too busy to organise it.
- Eddie’s hopes brighten with the thought of winning the bet with Lilian: if she weakened and had a drink, that would fund a really good post-Lent binge. How can she be persuaded to break her pledge? Joe has a plan.
