  • The Borchester Show is in full swing, and most of Ambridge is there. In the case of Freddie, this necessitates a day off school, but since leading a heifer into the ring is entirely educational, this presents no problem. Elizabeth, on the other hand, is such a high-powered business woman that she needs to find a quiet corner to catch up on work. Fortunately the President’s tent is free, and the ubiquitous Charlie is on hand to charge her battery and supply refreshment.
  • Jazzer and Ed are entering the sheep shearing competition. They fear the New Zealanders will severely outclass them, but agree that whichever of the two has the slower time will treat the other to a meal.
  • Hayley and Roy are there, presumably to support the heir to Lower Loxley, since they have few agricultural connections. Elizabeth tells them in her brave little widow voice that she and the twins went on the treetop walk for Father’s Day, because Nigel loved it so much. Hayley coyly if a little tactlessly suggests that Charlie must be interested in Elizabeth, since she is a very attractive woman. She also tells Roy to make sure Elizabeth has a good time at the festival. Since she is a very attractive woman, could Roy do otherwise?
  • Tony is also at the show, eyeing up the Aberdeen Angus bulls. He spots a fine specimen and arranges to visit the farm in his quest for a bull for his new herd.
  • Ed and Jazzer are indeed outclassed by the New Zealanders, but manage respectable times with just a few seconds between them. Ed nobly treats Jazzer to a burger. Aberdeen Angus, of course.
  • Freddie’s heifer makes Highly Commended, and Elizabeth manages to tear herself away from the President’s tent to see his victory. Freddie, too, is treated to the show’s finest culinary offerings. All in all, it is a good day for Ambridge and its denizens.
