Radio Times: It is a sad day for Peggy. Meanwhile, Brian is hoping for lunch.

  • Lilian drops Peggy off after a shopping trip, but has to forego a cup of tea with her mother because Matt texts to say she is needed urgently in the office as Anthea is unwell and has had to go home. Greeted by Bill, Peggy wonders where Ben is. She finds him outside, looking very strange.
  • Jill calls at the Dower House and asks Lilian how her knitting for the new baby is going. Lilian is understandably evasive, simply saying how therapeutic she finds knitting, but after Jill leaves, Matt teases Lilian about her lack of skill. Now that Lilian is back in the office, Matt is off to play golf with Brian. When Lilian protests, he airily tells her it is only nine holes- rather fewer than her knitting has.
  • The oh-so-funny Home Farm kitchen saga limps on, with Brian deciding to eat lunch at the golf club before his round with Matt. Unfortunately he has mistaken the time, and has to start playing immediately. Matt offers him an old Mars bar from his golf trolley.
  • Summoned by Peggy, Alistair rushes round to take a look at Ben. Gently he tells Peggy that the animal has had a brain haemorrhage, and the kindest thing would be to put him down. He does so straight away.
  • Jill calls on Peggy to offer her condolences and makes all the right noises about how hard it is to lose a pet. Peggy struggles bravely, but dissolves in floods of tears. She is so very lonely ….
