Enough is enough! Kathy resigns but that’s just what Martyn wanted anyway.
Radio Times: Kirsty enjoys some time out, and Kathy has been pushed too far.
Characters: Kathy, Kirsty, Leigh, Martyn, Pat, Tom- All work and no play make Tom a dull boy, so he is taking some time to visit an Artisan Food Event – with Kirsty. He will be back later in the afternoon. The event is a bit disappointing and neither Tom nor Kirsty exhibit any urgency to get back to work, so they head off to a nearby bird reserve.
- What is Martyn’s game? He has omitted from the shortlist the best qualified applicant for golf club chef. For no obvious reason he continues to undermine Kathy; if she doesn’t like it he will conduct the interviews without her and she has no choice in the matter. Oh yes she has: she resigns. Martyn can barely conceal his joy and suggests that she clears her desk today.
- Tom enjoys an hour without any thoughts of work; the highlights are the sight of a rare male hen-harrier and just spending time with Kirsty.
- On her way out, Leigh speaks to Kathy: there is something she ought to know about which he is not happy. Martyn intends to offer her job to Gemma, the wife of the new General Manager, Nicholas who will be arriving soon. She realises that she has been stitched up; Martyn has been working towards this very result all along; no wonder he was so laid back about her resignation.
- When Tom gets back, Pat comments that he has been gone long enough but he doesn’t volunteer an explanation. Kathy turns up and shares with Pat what has taken place. That’s constructive dismissal; it is but she is so glad to be out of there, she is inclined to let it go. But what is she going to do now?
