  • At The Stables the mopping up continues. The yard is the focus of attention; there has also been some water in the kitchen, though surprisingly this appears to be of no consequence. Bert turns up, not being needed at Brookfield and offers a helping hand.
  • Tom has donated some silage to tide Brookfield over, though it doesn’t lighten Pip’s mood; she is clearly weighed down with the immediate problems facing the farm. Ruth and David ponder the wonderful way that the villagers have pulled together; a crisis brings out the best in people and it has made David appreciate his neighbours and family.
  • Shula and Bert are making good progress, while indoors Jim and Chris are sorting out the kitchen. Bert is going to see Freda this afternoon, thanks to a lift from Jennifer, and Jill invites herself along. Freda has pneumonia and is still quite poorly; she is being spared the details of the devastation for now. Jill assures Bert that he and Freda are welcome to stay at Brookfield for as long as necessary.
  • At Brookfield, Pip continues to be pessimistic; it’s a real disaster and she doesn’t see how they are going to manage. One thing is going right: the tanker has got through, so they can start selling their milk again; no more bowsers. When Bert returns, Ben has a surprise for him: he has cleaned up Freda’s precious recipe books. When Pip comes in she is in a state of collapse; she is so exhausted. David has not yet had chance to talk to Ruth about the future so he doesn’t know how she is feeling. He is not going to push her; they will just have to wait and see.
