  • Silaging is well under way at Brookfield, and David’s early start has done little to improve his attitude to Jude, who brought Pip home very late. He’d hoped that Jude’s disappearance at the weekend might have put Pip off, but that’s clearly not the case.
  • Tony gives Tom a hand moving the arks. Tom is amused by Jazzer’s antipathy towards Harry, but very fed up with the effect Brenda’s job is having on their home life. Tony’s glum because it’s the week when Helen will discover whether or not she’s pregnant, but he cheers up when Tom puts the not-entirely-original idea of Bridge Farm veal and ham pies to him. Tony’s all for it.
  • A frantic Pip rings Elizabeth. She’s misread the timetable, and her exams are this morning, not this afternoon. One has already started. Elizabeth does her best to calm Pip, and, leaving Nigel to look at the final plans for Bank Holiday at Lower Loxley, she sets off to drive Pip to college.
  • Later that morning Pip rings Elizabeth again. She was too late to sit her Business Studies, and she messed up her biology. Elizabeth again tries to put a better gloss on things, but Pip is distraught. She daren’t tell her parents, who will blame it all on Jude. She knows she shouldn’t have stayed out so late; whatever will she do now?
  • When Elizabeth tells Nigel, he warns her against interfering between Pip and David. Elizabeth thinks David is too harsh on Pip, but Nigel remains firm; she must stay out of this.
