Finally someone suggests to Ruth she might be pregnant.

Radio Times: Jolene gets competitive, and Jill makes a surprising suggestion.

Characters: Jill, Jim, Jolene, Kenton, Ruth, Usha

• Christine and Jill are off to an embroidery exhibition now she can see. She offers again to make Ben’s birthday cakes and Ruth snaps at her making Jill leave in a huff. Ruth calls Usha in tears.
• Kenton hasn’t found a Rhys replacement yet and Jolene turned down the “looker” that he interviewed. Kenton tells Jim the good news about Bradley Wiggins. Kenton admits his teetotal challenge is proving difficult. Jim sympathises with Kenton and tells Jolene she wouldn’t find it so easy if she found herself surrounded by chocolate so Jim suggests Kenton does just that.
• Ruth admits to Usha she is worried about why she is feeling so ill. She only had a cancer check-up a couple of months ago but she is frightened it might be that. Usha tells her she needs to ease up but Ruth feels she must pull her weight. Usha suggests it might be hormones – she suffered until the HRT kicked in. Ruth says she’s been feeling dizzy and Usha says that’s another symptom. If she won’t talk to David, she must talk to the Doctor.
• Kenton has bought chocolates and Jolene has hidden them. Jim says that’s not fair, they have to be in plain sight so Jolene empties them out onto a tray. And then serves herself a large glass of wine. Kenton tries eating chocolates in front of her while she slurps her wine. Does no one in Ambridge have any table manners? And she sabotages Kenton by giving him the cherry brandy chocolate.
• When Jill gets back, Ruth has made the cake and Jill praises it. Ruth apologises. Jill says she has seen Ruth in this state once before – when she was expecting Pip. Could she be pregnant? Ruth is shocked at the thought, as only a farmer responsible for the fertility of her cows and the proud possessor of one surprise pregnancy already could be!
