- Alice and Adam are working out the logistics of tonight’s pickers’ party. She asks out of interest how the drill is performing and Adam is more than happy, although is burning the midnight oil with it. They discuss Tom’s good fortune at reaching interview stage and Pip fancies a crack at the scholarship herself someday. Prophet of doom Alice warns them not to get their hopes up due to the competitive nature of the scholarship. Pip queries Alice’s sudden interest in farming. When Alice refutes the sudden change of heart, Josh challenges both Pip and Alice to a competition: tractor time trials. With alcohol already having been consumed all round, Pip cautions that there is no urgency, but for Josh and Alice, there is no time like the present. Alice is first behind the wheel and makes a promising start, but it ends with a bump and Alice fears the wrath of Adam.
