  • Eddie is corrupting George with his illicit poaching. As Brian and William inspect the feeding stations, the Grundy hallmark is spotted instantly by William, while Brian quickly heads off Justin Elliott to a different feeding station. Brian later returns to inspect the damage, to which Justin remains oblivious, and instructs William to contact him straight away with any further concerns. William reassures Brian that he does not think these poachers are a large scale operation but instead a local racket.
  • Elizabeth is trying to keep Freddie distracted prior to his GCSE results by asking him to spend time at the falconry. He is having none of it, but then has a change of heart and goes to speak with Elizabeth, who is interrupted by a phone call from Richard Locke, Freddie storms out, only to return later to find Richard in person, as he’s called round to borrow an opera book from Elizabeth. Freddie leaves for a second time, in a bad mood and with scant details about his intended whereabouts.
  • Clarrie is worrying about the house move while Eddie makes polite small talk about work and the neighbours. William bursts in to confront his father. He has already seen the brace of pheasants hanging in Eddie’s barn. Eddie feels he has a sense of entitlement to a single brace, being a local, which enrages William further. Clarrie mediates and settles the matter, with agreement from a disgruntled Eddie that this will not happen in the future.
