Hayley confronts Roy, though not about the locket – yet.

Radio Times: Hayley has got a lot on her mind, and Freddy is misbehaving.

  • The conversation at Willow Farm is stilted. Hayley is overtly keeping busy; Roy is feigning normality. She does well not to explode when he says he might pop out later to sort out the figures for Loxfest – because Elizabeth is under pressure. He promises to be back before dessert.
  • When they meet at a coffee morning in aid of the hunt, Shula discloses to Rob that Helen was once a keen member of the pony club and participated in the hunt. Back home, he puts pressure on Helen to take Henry to a meet, though she is not keen to have anything to do with such an exclusive group. The phone rings; he ignores it.
  • Freddie is surly and unhappy with his continuing grounding but Elizabeth stands firm: smoking Marijuana is a big deal; his allowance will be restored only when she feels she can trust him. Shula, having found herself at a loose end, calls on her sister and administers tea and sympathy; she is still there when Roy arrives so any ambition to spend time with Elizabeth is thwarted.
  • It would be reasonable to expect that Roy would therefore soon be back home. But no, he missed dessert: he had stayed to answer a shoal of emails. Hayley has had enough. All he ever talks about is work. He had said that after the festival things would be back to the way they were. He admits that she is right and he suggests a night out this week; it is indeed time for everything to get back to normal. (There’s no mention of the locket!)
