Hayley, Roy, Phoebe and Betty are still not seeing eye to eye at Willow Farm.
Radio Times: Hayley adjusts to life with the in-laws.
Characters: Betty, Caroline, Elizabeth, Hayley, Nigel, Oliver, Roy- Hayley and Roy are enjoying some morning time to themselves in bed. He apologises for what Marjorie told him he was doing wrong! She extends the situation to telling him that Phoebe is getting too many treats from Nana, that Betty is really doing her no favours by looking after her all half-term week, and he lets his Mum run after him too much. Oh dear! He’ll try harder to interpret between them if she prompts him – all this girl-stuff is a bit deep for him! But they both realise that it usually takes Betty quite a long time to feed the hens …
- Oliver and Caroline are planning a long weekend with Eleanor. Roy will be in charge – extra money for him now he and Hayley are saving for a house. Oliver has been thinking about what might be involved if they take on the fostering idea – nice to know that Roy is shaping up well to more responsibility. Caroline seems surprised to hear that Oliver gas already sent for all the fostering bumf already …
- Hayley is annoyed that Betty is ironing Roy’s shirt – he does his own ironing now! Roy isn’t old-fashioned like Mike! Roy is very appreciative … *** !!!
- Nigel comes across Lizzie in the gardens – she has been checking up with Titcombe on Nigel’s Poker losses with Kenton! Nigel can justify it all, of course!! Hayley arrives early at Lower Loxley, in murderous mood …
- Betty phones Roy at Grey Gables – she has suddenly realised that she can’t have Phoebe today after all. Susan is at the sausage factory so she must be in the shop all day. Roy will sort it all out – don’t worry, Mum …
- Hayley can’t pour out her irritations to Elizabeth about living with in-laws fast enough! After all they’d talked about, Roy just said “Thanks, Mum” for the shirt!! Elizabeth really sympathises – she’s got Nigel and Julia. So Roy arrives with Phoebe and suddenly the whole situation escalates out of all proportion! (Sorry – I’m Betty’s generation and see her point of view more clearly, though I do have ‘liberated’ married daughters and a daughter-in-law somewhat like Hayley … !)
- Nigel, Elizabeth and the children (including Phoebe) are enjoying activities in the gardens. Both empathise with the problems that Hayley and Roy are going through – at least they have the advantage of space at Lower Loxley. And Julia? Ironing?? What a joke! Kenton has rung to confirm that they are going to his party tomorrow. Of course they are, but what’s this about a change of clothes??
