  • A big family tea is under way at Bridge Farm, so that Peggy can meet Johnny. When the inevitable conflict of ideas about Berrow Farm erupts, Peggy makes it very clear that Rob’s ideas accord with hers. Apart from giving Henry his orders, Helen says nothing.
  • Ed and Jazzer plan a night in the cider shed to talk over plans for what they will do when the dairy goes out of business. Ed invited Roy, who refused the offer.
  • As they clear away the remnants of the tea, Pat and Peggy discuss Johnny. Pat loves having him there, and she has not seen Tony so happy in a long while. Peggy’s response is noticeably cool. In her eyes he must go home and start college. She tells Pat to ring Sharon and organise Johnny’s return to his real home.
  • Helen is tense after the tea party. She is convinced that Peggy knows all about Jess, and that everyone for miles around can talk of nothing else. Rob has the answer. They must go hunting together to show the world that they can rise above Jess.
  • Ed is getting desperate. He wonders if he and Jazzer should buy a tractor and go into contracting. Or take on the dairy themselves. What about £15K for a pasteuriser muses Jazzer.
  • Johnny continues to enthuse about farm work – until Pat tells him Sharon will fetch him on Sunday. He then erupts; even Pat and Tony refuse to listen to him – they want shot of him – he wants to stay and work on the farm.
