Radio Times: Neil makes a touching declaration and Joe’s plan backfires

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Susan and Clarrie are disagreeing over what counts as complaining. But Clarrie thinks they need to stick up for Nic. Susan doesn’t see why that means they can’t go to the tea room for Valentine’s but Will would see that as them sticking up for Emma. Clarrie asks how her job search is going. Susan is determined that her yoghurt days are over but then Helen appears to ask her to talk to a customer about how kefir might help with her eczema.
  • Joe wants to cook a surprise meal for Clarrie and Eddie. Well, actually he wants Nic to cook the meal. She goes for cannelloni.
  • Helen praises Susan for the help she gave the customer and because her gut health display is attracting interest. Susan is pleased and admits to Clarrie that there isn’t much around for people like her. Clarrie says, in the end, the bosses aren’t that bad and they are in regular work which is more than many. Then Clarrie gets a call from Eddie. Surely they can’t be that lucky….
  • Clarrie appears back at Grange Farm to tell them the good luck. They’ve got tickets for Jersey Boy in Stoke on Trent (no, no clue what that means either!) It’s for tonight. Then Clarrie notices the smell – surely Joe hasn’t been cooking. He claims he was boiling up giblets for the ferrets.
  • Neil has cooked steaks for Susan but she is obviously upset. She says she is worried about Neil. If he has to retire there is no way they could survive on what she earns at the moment. She goes up to change for the Mr & Mrs competition. He says she looks lovely. And he tries to reassure her that they will be fine. It’s only a few years until the mortgage is paid off and they will be fine. Susan says as long as he is here she will have nothing to complain about.
  • Joe and Nic eat the food anyway. She thanks him for thinking of her. She knows he did it because he heard she had lost her job. They are listening to some of Susan’s dance songs. She persuades him to teach her how to dance and he remembers that the foxtrot was his and Susan’s first dance at the village hall after she’d been stood up by some boyfriend. He tells her the most important thing is to seize the day.
