Helen wants to rid herself of anything to do with Rob. Tom has some good news. Just as the Grundy finances are on an even keel, there is a demand on them.

Radio Times: Pat wants Helen to think again, and Eddie calls on Ed for help.

  • As Ed relates Sunday’s events at The Bull to Eddie, with some satisfaction at Rob’s inability to get Jolene to serve him Sunday lunch, Eddie has other things on his mind; moving Susan’s mangle back to Grange Farm for Joe. Ed agrees to lend a hand later. Eddie is pleased that a car boot brought in a good sum, so the rent will be paid.
  • Helen shows no interest in retrieving her things from Blossom Hill Cottage, despite Pat’s best efforts; she wants to throw away anything that might remind her of Rob. Tom returns and cleverly points out that putting it all into land-fill would be against Helen’s principles. She capitulates immediately and Pat goes to retrieve the items.
  • Meanwhile Tom has some good news in the form of a Nuffield Scholarship. The family are delighted, and Helen offers to do some research for him. He will need sponsorship, hopefully from one of Justin Elliott’s companies. Now that could prove something of a minefield if Damara’s new estate manager should get wind of it…
  • Ed and his father manage to shift the mangle, which Ed hopes to upcycle. They are unimpressed with Joe’s lack of appreciation, until Ed realises that Bartleby is ill; his hock is badly swollen. It looks like a job for the vet. So much for the rent money being paid.
