Matters between Rex and Toby reach boiling point. Rob seeks to re-enter Ambridge society and issues Pat with an ultimatum.

Radio Times: Rex is argumentative, and Alice wants to make amends.

  • Nursing a hangover and a broken heart, Rex is none too pleased when Bert tries to indulge in cheerful chitchat about village matters. At least Toby has done his share of the work, though he is resentful when Rex checks up. Tension mounts over the cereal.
  • Large as life, Rob shows up at the shop and encounters Ed, who makes it clear he does not wish to indulge in conversation. Having established that Susan is not in the shop, since she refuses to serve him, Rob is about to go inside when Pat arrives. She too shows a marked reluctance to engage with him.
  • Still determined to re-establish himself at the forefront of society, Rob makes for The Bull, but inexplicably Kenton and Jolene seem too busy to serve him. When Ed comes in, he is treated to Rob’s unpleasant jeering laugh when he refuses the offer of a drink. Toby has arranged to meet Bert there but when Rex appears, the morning’s spat erupts into a full-scale row. Rob attempts to intervene; at the least the brothers are united enough to yell in chorus that he should keep out of it.
  • Alice comes looking for Ed, and somewhat awkwardly apologises for what happened at the party. Ed is fine about it, but Alice persists; can they meet for a drink – she would value his advice. Toby indulges in considerable innuendo. Whether Rob does ever get served remains a mystery.
  • Rob turns up for his contact time with Jack and is, as ever, unpleasant. As an afterthought he tells Pat that he has bundled up Helen and Henry’s stuff. Either they fetch it or goes out as rubbish.
