Is it curtains for Bert?
Radio Times: Is it curtains for Bert?
Characters: Alistair, Bert, David, Eddie, Ellen, Lizzie, Nigel, Shula- Shula and Alistair are discussing the invitations to the wedding, with some of his background coming out, like that fact his father is an academic and they don’t get on, but he has a sister who will probably get on with everyone. Shula suggests to him that he might want to throw his hat into the ring for consideration as the cricket club’s new captain.
- Nigel’s been putting it off but Lizzie’s badgering finally takes its toll and he rings Ellen who is shocked to hear that Ronald Hardwicke has been in contact. She tells him that she’s still not forgiven Julia for running up debts against her bar, but she wouldn’t want to wish Hardwicke on anyone, suggesting that Julia should be made to see the deep trouble she’s got herself into.
- Bert’s not happy in his work at Brookfield. He feels camaraderie for Harry Roberts after his resignation and is more than a little grumpy at David for seeming so penny pinching, like his willingness for Bert to leave a job partially finished at the end of the day rather than pay over-time. He snaps at Eddie when he’s asked for some hints to his latest quiz sheet.
- Lizzie suggests to Shula that they hold the ceremony and reception at Lower Loxley. Shula says yes and no. Yes to the ceremony, but she’s sure that their mother would be dreadfully disappointed not to host the reception.
