Jennifer is determined to take Brian and Phoebe to Nolly’s christening in South Africa.

• Something has to give: Jennifer is dead set on going to South Africa and Brian is adamant that they cannot afford it. Jennifer will investigate the cost anyway and when Matt Crawford turns up, this seems like the ideal time to do it. Must dash, bye!
• There is tension too in Tony’s family: Helen is keen to expand into the vegetable box business but Tony insists on establishing cropping patterns first, as he already finds it hard to keep the shop supplied. He is therefore not best pleased to be given an unnecessary journey to restock the shop with potatoes. His sister is in the shop at the time and he expresses surprise that she can afford to go to South Africa, since it is all round the village that they have lost a packet on the Borchester Mills crash.
• It seems that everybody knew about Borchester Mills. Matt certainly did. He had his eye on the site for development and is hopeful that it will now drop into his lap. Brian cannot blame this one on the global economy. If it was so obvious to all, Brian wonders why nobody thought it appropriate to mention it to him. Matt will have to report to the Board but Brian could earn some brownie points by having a “fatherly” word with Brenda Tucker, who is currently poking her nose into Matt’s business.
• Helen is pushing her luck with Tony: on top of vegetable boxes, she wants to get into making cheese. No. It would be her project involving no work for Mum and Dad. No. She learnt cheese making at Reaseheath and with Ann Baxter. No. The customers are asking for Bridge Farm cheese. Still no.
• Jennifer was pleased that Brian had not told Matt about Debbie’s role in the losses. He has taken all the flak himself. What a hero, he deserves a holiday. That his wife doesn’t give up becomes very clear to Brian when Roy calls. He had got Jennifer’s message and half expected a problem with the honeymoon arrangements. Instead, she asks if she and Brian can take Phoebe to South Africa in the middle of June for Nolly’s christening.
