Jennifer is on a high about Oxford. Ruth is on a high about spring calving. Peggy is in acerbic mode.

Radio Times: Jill is feeling excited, while Jennifer is thinking about Oxford.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • As they chat after church, Peggy asks Jill why she is looking so cheerful. Could it be a man? Jill cannot help revealing the latest plan for the Brookfield dairy herd, but Peggy is more interested in making barbed comments about Sabrina Thwaite’s headgear and interest in Daniel. Sabrina’s husband is targeted by Jennifer while this is going on. She needs to sound him out about Oxford. Cue more barbed comments from Peggy; Jennifer has Oxford on the brain. Anyone would think it was her future under discussion.
  • David tries out the quad bike as he ferries refreshments to his womenfolk; tea for Ruth but hot chocolate for Pip. Ruth is on a high, which makes a change from the misery-soaked whispery pre-New Zealand Ruth. David fails to share her mood.
  • Lynda annoys Jennifer by demanding that her cast assemble to clear her ‘production office’. Jennifer agrees to an hour, but has far more important matters to attend to i.e. ‘researching’ accommodation at Oxford for Phoebe. Brian points out that Phoebe at present has no offer from Oxford, but Jennifer grandly informs him that Richard Thwaite can offer sound advice on the tutorial system. Maybe Peggy had it right.
  • David is annoyed with Jill for revealing their plans to Peggy. Still on a major high, and shedding all her consonants with every utterance, Ruth dismisses his gripes and actually does Josh’s washing. She reveals that Matthew also knows all about their plans. He has had experience of spring calving and has suggested the possibility of doing away with a parlour and milking in an open-sided barn. She is SO excited. What a shame David is not.
