Radio Times: There is much praise for Brian, and Eddie has big ideas.

  • Brain urges Jennifer to keep the news of Bridge Farm’s plans to herself. Justin then arrives, oleaginous as ever, and Jenny immediately asks if he is an Oxford man. Slimy Justin says Cambridge was his university, as it was hers. Brian interrupts to say that Jenny did not go to Cambridge, whereupon Justin claims to have her down as a Newnham girl. Jenny is utterly charmed.
  • Eddie is busy constructing something at Grange Farm, but refuses to tell Clarrie what. She is anxious about keeping everything immaculate, so Eddie’s boots are banned, but as Clarrie sets off for work she sees that it is a pig pen. How are they to afford pigs?
  • Justin wants to talk to Brian about Berrow Farm. He greatly admires Brian’s forward-looking approach, especially the herbal ley scheme, which will leave other farmers standing when it reaps profits. Exactly what Brian said to Adam? Not quite. But Justin has plans to convert Berrow to arable and to ask Home Farm to manage it – but Jennifer must keep it quiet.
  • Justin calls to tell Charlie his plans for Berrow Farm. He thinks part of Charlie’s problem was not mixing sufficiently with the locals. When he goes to Scotland he must make an effort to do so, and even have some fun.
