Jennifer’s matchmaking comes to naught. Alice’s heart clearly belongs to Chris.

Radio Times: Jennifer plays a misguided Cupid.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Lilian is highly amused by Alice’s account of how Chris stays in her room when he visits her at University; she can well believe that they didn’t mind it being a bit cramped. Jennifer is less amused. Alice has enjoyed flying in the Air Squadron, though she wishes she was closer to home – to Chris actually. Lilian brings a positive report about Barney, Jack’s new helper. Matt’s mood seems rather dark after a long phone call. It’s a party; give the man a drink.
  • Outside, Adam recruits Brian to cover while he goes to the Oxford Farming Conference. Brian welcomes the chance to keep his hand in.
  • At Jennifer’s drinks party she is keen to pair Alice off with a very nice young man, Sebastian Streatfield; Alice prefers to wait for Chris to turn up but reluctantly agrees to be sociable. Tom reports that Hannah is doing well and is also helping at the panto. Brian, ever keen make more money, suggests putting more belly, i.e. more fat, into the sausages but Tom will have none of it – the brand represents quality.
  • Elsewhere at the party Lilian finds Matt engaged in another, acrimonious phone call but is told very firmly to keep her nose out. The property development business is difficult at present, that’s all. Lilian is not convinced.
  • Alice was clearly not impressed with ‘Basty’ and is glad when Chris arrives. Tom shares with Adam his anger about Brian’s pressure; stick to his guns is Adam’s advice. Jennifer’s matchmaking comes unstuck when Alice makes an early exit with Chris, for whom the party is not his scene, to meet his mates at The Feathers.
