Characters: Alice, Debbie, Ed, Jennifer, Josh, Ruth- Alice does a spot of winding-up as she updates her mother about the guest-list. She’s heard that Clive Horobin’s therapist is in favour of his attending the party. Jennifer is suitably appalled, but the arrival of Debbie diverts her
- Alone at Rickyard Cottage, Emma is puzzled by a phone call. When she answers, there is no-one there. Later she goes to hang her washing out, and is certain someone is watching her from the bushes. She rings Ed in panic.
- Ruth calls at Home Farm to find the frantically busy and exhausted Jennifer sipping wine at the poolside with her daughters. As they discuss Pip’s latest job as a strawberry picker, Alice remarks with wonderful irony that it’s much better to be independent and earn your own money. When Ruth returns, Josh rushes into the house with his camcorder.
- Alice tells Debbie about Helen; Debbie seems impressed. Later, Jennifer is distraught to hear that Debbie and Marshall have split up. Apparently Brian does not share Jennifer’s rosy view of him. With yet more irony, Alice remarks that not every woman needs a man.
- Ed comes home and finds signs of a possible intruder. Then the mystery is solved as Ruth drags a penitent Josh along to apologise. Emma and Ed are amused, though Ed warns him not to pursue someone else’s woman. Well, Ed should know.
