• Brian’s getting increasingly frustrated at his partners in Borchester Land. He missed a board meeting and it seems that Matt Crawford has managed to convince the others that he’s not doing a good job because his profit forecasts are not being met. Brian’s blaming the market conditions, but Matt wants in independent auditor to look at the books. He’s sure he’ll be vindicated, but it’s a waste of time and money.
• Hayley bumps into Ruth who tells her the news about Tom, and Hayley is shocked. She’d seen him on Wednesday and he’d seemed fine, although she remembers that he’d something strangely prescient as she left. “if I don’t see you for a while, you make sure and be happy” She drops in on Brookfield to offer condolences, that he was a lovely neighbour to her and John and also to tell Phil that Tom had, in the absence of any children himself, he’d always considered him, Christine and Jack as surrogate children. They all reminisce fondly.
• Jill and Ruth chat about Usha and get onto to the subject of the wedding and they both agree that Shula might be rushing things. Lizzie has mentioned to Phil that she’s concerned about Jill’s feelings, but he doesn’t seem to see it.
