Jill’s arrest has a very bad effect on the upcoming fete and Roy has offended Lexi by reporting the racist graffiti.

Radio Times: Lynda worries about the fete, and Harrison has a difficult question to ask

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Roy and Lynda discuss the career of the arch Ambridge criminal Jill Archer. Lynda asks about the location of Jill’s arrest. The Duxford sisters are supposed to be opening the Ambridge fete, wails Lynda.
  • Fallon teases Harrison about arresting Jill. She has very sharp elbows, exclaims Harrison in his defence. Harrison notes that he will take hardened criminals like Jill any day over visiting his parents. He had plans to visit and ask his parents for financial help to buy Woodbine Cottage but Harrison discovered that Marcus, his brother, is back living at home. His family has bailed out Marcus time and again and now he is back home with his girlfriend. Harrison has never asked them for anything since he was 18. Harrison agrees there is no harm in asking them for a bit of help for the deposit. Good luck, cries Fallon. Fallon receives a call from Lynda decrying Harrison’s actions. Fallon laughs then sombrely notes she has only heard Harrison’s side of the story.
  • Jill tells Fallon she didn’t mean to cause all the trouble, especially with the fete. She thinks Harrison has only done his job. Jill notes that she has tried to apologise repeatedly but Lulu Duxford refused to listen. Jill notes that she can’t go to the fete meeting. She must help with Caroline’s memorial and then she has a meeting with the press.
  • Harrison is upset because his brother has signed on for disability and his girlfriend is pregnant, although they are living with Harrison’s parents. Harrison decided to go ahead and ask for help. His parents said they’d love to help but because of Marcus they don’t think they can afford it.
  • Roy wants to talk to Lexi and she insists on asking Roy if he is the one who reported the graffiti. Lexi didn’t want involvement with the police. Roy tries to convince Lexi that it was important to report the graffiti. Racially motivated vandalism must be stopped before it gets out of control. Lexi thinks it is silly but Roy argues it is hateful and they are not just kids. Roy is trying to do what is right but Lexi sees he is making trouble for the rest of them. She is very angry at the trouble and attention Roy has brought to the pickers and she leaves abruptly.
  • Jill, Fallon and Lynda listen to Jill’s Borchester Radio interview. In her radio statements, Jill makes the point about food waste and the fact that families are relying on food banks while the Duxford sisters are catering to the elite. She confesses that her frustration got the best of her. Fallon supports Jill but Lynda doesn’t feel Jill was conciliatory enough. The publicity has already gone out but Jill is truly sorry. Lynda isn’t very understanding and comments that it may not have been Jill’s intention but she has dealt a potentially devastating blow to this year’s fete.
