Jim has an interesting suggestion to make. David hears an interesting piece of information.

Radio Times: It is Dawn Chorus Day, and the plot thickens for David.

  • The Ambridge Dawn Chorus is in full voice as Jim brings Christine along to enjoy the sounds of nature. They encounter Jennifer, patronising as ever, putting Jim right about the name of the Millennium Wood. Jim puts her firmly in her place by quoting Seneca in the original Latin.
  • Robert is also up early, and mentions forming a team for the Great Bird Race. At first Jim is dismissive of the idea, calling it a media stunt, but on reflection decides he might just form a team too. Robert refuses Jennifer’s offer of breakfast, but Jim and Chris accept with alacrity.
  • At the Flood meeting David is out to impress Rachel from the environment Agency, maybe because she sounds exactly like Pip. He introduces various flood victims to her and tells her exactly how he has arranged the meeting. Jim makes an interesting point (with accompanying Latin quotation); they need to engage an independent consultant to determine the flood risk posed by Route B. Jennifer is so impressed that she offers to underwrite the scheme.
  • David has a confidential word with Rachel, telling her about the blocked culvert near Berrow Farm. She tells him both culverts are managed by the Environment Agency. They are regularly checked, and any debris would be quickly removed. She will check this one out. Could David’s efforts to think this one through actually lead to establishing why the flood occurred?
