Joe tries to convince Eddie that it’s only him as his father that will get through to Ed.

Characters: Bert, David, Joe, Ruth, William- William is pleased Emma has moved out of the caravan – especially now George is into everything. She’s made the right decision and things are now easier now that she isn’t going to go back with Ed. Joe isn’t sure what’s on Ed’s mind though. He thinks Ed has said he doesn’t want to see her. But even William is getting a bit softer about things. He can’t bear what Ed is doing to Clarrie – and Joe says Eddie and Clarrie still aren’t really speaking.
- Bert thinks they have a thief at Brookfield. But it turns out the children have been picking up Bert’s fence posts for the tree house. So Bert offers some wood – and some extra help too!
- Tea with George and the family is a bit strained. Eddie is still being hostile to Oliver’s dairy and is claiming the milk is full of bugs and expects Mike to lose customers. Clarrie is furious he just wants to gloat over anything if Oliver fails. William tries to stop him going on at Clarrie but he doesn’t get anywhere. Joe says he tries too but doesn’t get anywhere. In the end William takes her away from things by having her around to his house for the evening. Eddie resents her going and blames Ed but Joe insists whatever he’s done has nothing to do with Ed. But Joe wants to tell him some home truths. All Clarrie wants to hear is that she’s unhappy. And things aren’t what they look at Grange Farm. Oliver can’t get through to him. He needs his father. But he’s too proud to make the first move – like someone else Joe knows.
