Johnny is reassured. Ruth and David are struck dumb.
Radio Times: Pat reaches out to Johnny, and Charlie drops a bombshell.
Characters: Charlie, David, Johnny, Pat, Pip, Ruth- Ruth is in reflective mood as she cleans down the parlour. She feels she must make the most of the time they have left at Brookfield. David urges her to slow down, but Ruth is worried that some people will not miss them when they go. Meanwhile Pip (who sounds bizarrely like Helen) is keen to show them her research on New Zealand dairy farming methods, until she is interrupted by Charlie asking if he can come and talk to Ruth and David. Wisely he ignores Ruth’s childish comments.
- Johnny is still working non-stop at Bridge Farm, and is reluctant to stop even for a sandwich. Eventually Pat manages to get him to stop, and to talk about the accident. Johnny blames himself; he disregarded all Tony’s advice about handling livestock. Perhaps Pat wishes he had never come. Pat reassures him; he has brought so much joy to them. Farms are hazardous places and accidents happen. Ed had praised the help Johnny gave in getting the bull off Tony. Tentatively Johnny asks if he can come with Pat to visit Tony.
- Ruth is worried that the Archer siblings may want to liquidate their share holdings. If they do, there is no way they will be able to install a parlour at the new farm without a mortgage. Charlie arrives and chats to Pip before telling David and Ruth why he has come. Justin Elliott is interested in buying the farm. Pointedly, David says he is welcome to join the phone auction. That’s not how Justin operates, announces Charlie. He is prepared to offer around seven million. Seven and a half, in fact.
