Josh has a new business idea, it could go far; Jill tries her hardest to build bridges.
Radio Times: Toby gets a surprise invite, and Josh has his eyes on the prize.
Characters: David, Jill, Josh, Pip, Ruth, Toby- Toby is at home when he receives a visit from Jill of all people. He enquires about her health. She can’t resist an unnecessarily snappy reply. However, she continues with her task and invites Toby and Pip to dinner this evening. Toby would be delighted, but he can’t speak for Pip who is not at home. Jill urges him to try and persuade her. It seems that Jill is not past doing a bit of fence mending after all.
- At Brookfield, David and Ruth are working outside and share a joke about Jazzer’s state last night. Ruth comments about Jill’s meal this evening and David reckons it’s to celebrate the improvement of her foot. Ruth regrets the absence of Pip and Toby. As she goes inside Josh turns up with details of his and Rex’s latest business venture, that of bringing buyers and sellers of used farm machinery together on his new web-site. He suggests David puts their old baler up for sale, and he agrees! Heavens!
- Toby manages to persuade Pip that dinner should be put on hold as Ruth needs to see her. She agrees but says that she won’t stay longer than necessary as Jill will be present. At Brookfield, everything’s on track for a wonderful meal, even the table has been decorated. To everyone’s surprise, Pip and Toby walk in. Jill spares no time in seating them. “Well” says Toby, “this is nice isn’t it?” For a change, Pip is lost for words.
- Dinner is going wonderfully well with conversation about family affairs being the order of the day. As David comments on the fantastic meal, Jill calls for a moment of silence. She’s so pleased that the family are eating together and wants to express her thanks to everyone, especially Toby, who helped her so much with her fall. Now it’s his turn to be somewhat shocked. Later, over the washing up, Jill and Pip discuss the mob grazing and Josh’s new website. Jill has even made some flapjacks for Pip and Toby to share.
- It’s almost lights out at Brookfield and Rickyard Cottage. David and Ruth can’t believe what just happened but long may the peace last. David mutters that he still can’t see Toby as a member of the family. Ruth tells him to shut up and let Pip enjoy herself. At Rickyard, as Toby manages to get flapjack crumbs in the bed, Pip can’t get over Jill’s conversion. She can’t believe either just how much like a couple they feel at the cottage. She asks Toby if he feels the same. The silence speaks volumes.
