  • Helen and Jack return to Bridge Farm after a walk in the torrential rain. She tells Pat that Henry seems to be upset. He arrived in her bed last night, clearly unhappy. Helen still finds it hard to believe that Rob has simply vanished, forever. He could easily have made up a story for Justin’s benefit. She’s certain that he wouldn’t go half-way around the globe to be rid of her and the boys. It’s just unthinkable.
  • Alan’s surprised to find Ursula in the church. She’s terribly upset having not seen Rob for a week. She’s left messages but to no avail. Alan tells her that he’s left his job. She’s been to the flat and found it empty. She becomes totally distraught. He wouldn’t just leave like that without telling her. Just why has he gone … and where?
  • In torrential rain, Lilian calls in at the farm shop to buy Justin’s favourite biscuits. She shares the news with Pat that things between her and Justin aren’t as bad as they may seem. The conversation turns to Helen. She must be so pleased about Rob’s disappearance. Far from it says Pat; she just can’t believe that he’s gone. As Lilian leaves, possibly to call on Helen, Alan appears with bad news. Ursula is back in town and Alan fears that she may be heading to Bridge Farm.
  • Lilian explains the facts behind Rob’s disappearance to Helen. About how Justin had discovered that he had a hand in diverting the flood. At last, Helen understands the reasons for Rob’s vanishing act, it’s just the sort of thing that he would do. She understands that Justin had to fabricate a story to help to avoid publicity. Memories of Charlie almost losing his life, and Freda’s demise flood back. Lilian asks her to keep matters to herself, but she should realise that Rob has finally gone.
  • Ursula turns up at the farm shop as predicted. She’s convinced that Pat knows something of his whereabouts especially as it was her family that hounded him out of Ambridge. The recriminations start. Ursula feels that a conniving wife tricked Rob with support from her loathsome clan. Pat takes the opportunity to give as good as she gets, not holding back on Rob’s upbringing and how just about everyone is convinced of his total guilt. Despite Ursula’s emotional state, Pat fervently hopes that he never shows his face again. To finish, Pat opens the shop door and invites her to leave, and never ever return.
