Josh seems to be neglecting his studies in favour of his new business; for Lilian, a new door opens.

Radio Times: It’s never too late for a fresh start. Meanwhile, Pip has got her work cut out.

  • At Home Farm, Lilian isn’t looking forward to her move. Jenny suggests that professionals may have been a safer bet. Lilian agrees but feels that Rex and Toby may need the cash. Anyway, they’re more than capable. They seem to be living in their caravan and she suggested to them that Kate’s cottage might be a useful let. Jenny points out that she’s only looking for holiday rentals. Lilian manages to inveigle Jenny into furniture shifting with Brian’s 4×4, later in the afternoon.
  • As Rex and Toby look over their newly hired van, Josh appears with plans for a solution to the pop hole problem. Rex wasn’t even aware that one existed, but the price of the materials is right so they agree to go ahead. Toby casually enquires about Pip. When Josh admits that she’s always texting Matthew, Toby gives a fine impression of his nose being put out of joint.
  • Pip and Ruth cast an eye over the new arrivals. Clearly milking time can’t come too soon for some of them. Josh arrives, fresh from his meeting with the Fairbrothers and gets an ear bending from Ruth, who’s concerned about his revision, or lack of it. He insists that he’s in control and knows what he’s doing. To prove the point, he offers to help with milking later on.
  • At the Dower House, Rex seems to be doing most of the work leaving Toby to divine Lilian’s life story. His eyes are on stalks as he hears that she used to own the estate. He’s even more interested to hear how she will be helping Justin Elliott to raise his social profile. At Brookfield, Ruth lends Pip and Josh a hand to get the cows into the parlour. But what a time it’s taken; what will tomorrow bring?
  • Jenny arrives at the Dower House, just as the last of the furniture is leaving for storage. Lilian is alone and very pensive. She wonders what might have been, had things been different with Matt. She just didn’t see the path her life would take. Jenny tries to lighten her mood. There are so many more in this world battling worse circumstances. But, as Lilian admits, she’s approaching seventy. It’s not really the right time of life to make a fresh start.
