Kate bares her soul to Adam. Phoebe bares her soul to Johnny. It must be New Year’s Eve.

Radio Times: Kate confides in Adam, as Ambridge continues to party.

  • New Year’s Eve lasts a long time in Ambridge and so does the drunken revelry. Kate hits the bottle hard, asking Adam to buy a bottle of champagne, which she drinks singlehandedly. A kilted Charlie appears and is introduced to Kate, who is smitten.
  • At the Young Farmers Josh too hits the bottle, partly because the object of his affections fails to return them, and is horribly unwell. He is rude to Johnny, who is trying to look after him, but eventually apologises, and has a chat with Phoebe, who tells him how lucky he is to have such nice parents. Hers are a waste of space. It seems that everyone in the room thinks Phoebe and Johnny are an item.
  • With her tongue well and truly loosened by alcohol, Kate admits to Adam that her marriage is over, and has been for some time. Lucas has given up his job and taken the children back to Johannesburg, where, she claims, his family are trying to turn Nolly and Sipho against her. She wonders what it is about her and her children; she always gets it wrong.
  • Charlie reappears, and is somewhat taken aback to realise that Kate is Adam’s sister. Adam is in his usual sullen mood, so Charlie and Kate hit the dance floor. Afterwards she tells Adam how gorgeous Charlie is, but Adam tries to warn her off. Charlie is a player and he doesn’t trust him. Are you jealous, asks Kate perceptively.
