  • Jennifer is cooking Sunday lunch. Kate is sulking that it isn’t a nut roast. Jennifer asks Kate to help but she objects because it’s Mother’s Day. Kate also throws a strop that Hayley is coming to lunch but Jennifer points out it’s the only way Kate was going to see Phoebe – going out for the day with Kate was never going to happen. Kate insists it should be about natural mothers. Jennifer points out there are more ways of being a mother as she well knows.
  • Pip and Ruth are working together. Bert is still in a bad way but there are people looking out for him. Ruth reminds Pip to stop Jill trying to take over the cooking – it’s her Mother’s Day too. Ruth is still worrying about Heather.
  • Kate witters on about Phoebe’s birth at Glastonbury and that she wishes Phoebe could remember it. She’s always felt a Universal Connection to her and says Phoebe must feel it too. Phoebe says no. When Hayley arrives, Phoebe is very excited and Kate is downright rude but is completely ignored by everyone. Phoebe pointedly reads out her Mother’s Day card for Hayley – to the best Mother in the world. Hayley says she is visiting Roy after lunch and Phoebe asks if she can come too. Kate rudely asks about how the divorce is going. Hayley says they are going to mediation to keep the split as amicable as possible. Kate says Roy won’t be amicable about anything. Phoebe retaliates by asking how her divorce is going from Lucas.
  • Ruth asks Pip how she really feels about not moving. Pip says she thinks they’d built the new farm up in their heads without even thinking about any of the pitfalls. Still, they could have done so much with the money. They talk about what they will do if the road goes ahead and Pip still thinks robotic milkers will be better than a bridge. Ruth says David is going on with the fight against the road but Pip says they shouldn’t count on it. And the other problem is that Kenton is coming home tomorrow.
  • And in the distance, a dog barks…..
