Kathy comes in for a lot of unpleasantness from Martyn. Rob comes in for a considerable amount of unpleasantness from Tony.

Radio Times: Kathy’s caught out, and Tony speaks his mind.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Tom rings Rob to suggest a drink after work. Rob is keen, though not to have the drink at Bridge Farm for some reason. He suggests The Bull so they can ‘grab’ something to eat.
  • Kathy rings Pat after work to ask for a raffle prize for the film night. Pat offers a Borsetshire Blue cheese and goes on to tell Pat how awful Martyn Gibson has been – though she is not sure when he will be back. Barely has she spoken the words than he appears in full Mr Nasty mode, taking Kathy to task for making a personal call, for clockwatching, for failing to have new menu ideas, for failing to be creative and for being negative when she tries to defend herself. His final insult is to tell Kathy she must reduce portions.
  • Rob tells Tom about his day, and intimates that he finds Brian difficult at times. Tom tells Rob his own experiences of working for Brian. Tom then tells Rob his news; Bellinghams want to increase their order. Unfortunately Tony walks in and hears the conversation, launching into a diatribe about rushing headlong into something that may come to nothing. Even Rob gets an earful as Tony sneeringly tells him that he has forgotten that Rob has done it all in his previous job. An embarrassed Rob goes to order food, leaving Tom to deal with Tony.
  • Kathy calls on Pat to vent her spleen over Martyn, but is interrupted by a furious Tony, saying Rob was holding forth and Tom hanging on his every word. Who does Rob think he is? And it’s not just Tom who is infatuated with him …
