Kenton offers advice to Toby; Justin offers advice to Brian via Jennifer.

Radio Times: Justin stands accused

Characters: Brian, Jennifer, Justin, Kenton, Lilian, Shula, Toby

• Late for his shift at The Bull, Kenton tells Toby that he’ll not win the pay rise he’s about to ask for as a new father. Toby tells him that his days in Ambridge are numbered if David has his way. He’s made it clear that the baby is 100% Archer, that his input is not required and that his tenancy is at risk. Kenton hears him out and then, calling for Jolene to take over, takes Toby for a walk.
• Lilian’s back and she phones Jenny. The trip was marvellous. Halfway through their chat, a worried Brian turns up. Promising to call back, Jenny hangs up and asks Brian a very straight question. Did Justin give him such a good deal on his recent land purchase because he knew the acres were contaminated? She suggests asking him. Brian’s horrified. It was mate’s rates and she mustn’t interfere. In that case, if he won’t ask, she warns that she might.
• While out for a ride, Justin asks Shula about the Am problem. She only knows that it’s the result of contamination. In turn, she asks Justin and Lilian if they have heard anything from Latif as Anisha has tried to contact him unsuccessfully. They both agree, slightly mysteriously, that they haven’t even had good wishes for their non-wedding event.
• Kenton has a heart to heart with Toby. He must put himself at the centre of the action. As soon as he sees his child, Kenton knows that he will love it, he has a large heart and much to give. He also has rights and shouldn’t surrender them. If Kenton could go back in time, the last thing he would do would be to hand over his daughter to his ex-wife and her new partner. Toby should look ahead and protect his future.
• After their ride, Lilian admits to Shula that she feels guilty about Anisha not being able to contact Latif. After all it was mostly Lilian’s doing. She has a thought. Should they have a drinks party next week and extend the hand of friendship? Would Shula and Alistair like to come? Shula thinks that it’s a wonderful idea.
• Jennifer has called on Justin and dives straight into a conversation about the contamination of the Am and the sale of poor land to Brian. In fact, would a friend sell such land to another friend? Was that the reason for the knock-down price? Justin builds up a head of indignant steam and it suddenly escapes. Why has Brian sent his wife to fight his battles? He knew the history of the plot well as it bordered Home Farm. He knew that it had no problems. If he didn’t, he should have done his research a little better. He has a message for Brian… caveat emptor! Oh dear.
