Characters: , , , ,
  • Bert is building the flower bed in The Bull to hold Freda’s rose. Kenton offers to pay but Bert won’t hear of it. He mentions buying some bulbs at the fete which doesn’t impress Kenton. He’d thought he wasn’t going. But Bert says it’s what Freda would have wanted. Kenton has heard about the Mayor’s spoonerism in the opening speech but Kenton says it was a judgement on holding the fete at Lower Loxley. Bert tells Kenton he can manage on his own but Kenton admits he and Jolene have had a row.
  • Jennifer and Phoebe have a chat while making cakes. Phoebe says she and Alex have decided to do exactly what they want and are going to ignore interfering people. Jennifer says Brian is still worried about having too much time on his hands but he’ll get used to it. Phoebe also says she has a great time with Roy. He’s had a real boost from being told he’ll be assistant manager. Mike doesn’t seem so happy though. Phoebe doesn’t think he’s enjoying living in Birmingham without trees.
  • Kenton tells Bert about the architects plans for The Bull. He admits the row with Jolene was because she wanted to find a new chef through an agency. Kenton would rather just put an advert in the Echo. Bert says they may as well wait until there actually is a new kitchen. Jill arrives and wants a chat with Kenton.
  • Jill has another go at trying to convince Kenton to let the argument with David go. He doesn’t see why it’s his responsibility. Kenton stamps his little feet and says how it all isn’t fair and no one loves him and he’s going to thcream and thcream and thcream until he’s sick. So there.
