Lilian has a day out with Matt. Pip seems to have lost interest in the herd. Ian moves ahead with plans for surrogacy
Radio Times: David and Ruth worry about Pip
Characters: Adam, David, Ian, Justin, Lilian, Matt, Pip, Ruth- Lilian receives an early morning call from Matt. His friend Vince is unable to use tickets for the Cheltenham Literary Festival, and Matt wonders if Lilian would like to go. After a brief effort to make Matt believe that she has Amside work to do, Lilian gladly accepts, just as Justin comes down for breakfast. Bidding a swift goodbye to ‘my friend Marcie.’ Lilian prepares for a day out.
- As David and Ruth discuss grazing plans, Pip arrives. She is brittle and unwilling to engage in discussion, but Adam then arrives so she is able to depart. David tells Adam they are considering enlarging the herd now that milk prices have recovered, which will mean less work for Adam, but Adam seems unconcerned. Ruth admits that since her accident, Pip seems to have lost her interest in the Brookfield herd. Adam remarks on Josh’s get up and go attitude, which extends to a flash new car. Ruefully, Ruth wishes that Pip shared it.
- Justin is still trying to woo Lilian, so asks Ian’s advice about a simple but impressive meal. Ian suggests lamb chops with a nice sauce, and a pleased Justin departs to buy ingredients. Ian comments that matters between Justin and Lilian seem strained. And Matt is still on the scene… but Ian soon forgets this, as he excitedly tells Adam about his conversation with a possible surrogate. Adam, meanwhile, is feeling trepidation after offering to mind Henry for a few hours.
- Lilian enjoys her day, and Matt’s company, but as they prepare to return, Matt suggests a meal. Lilian rings Justin to say she won’t be home. Justin is saddened, but can do little about it.
- Ruth tries to enthuse Pip with the plans for the herd, and indeed to persuade her to return to live at home. Pip reveals that she has been offered a permanent herd manager’s job, but has turned it down. Aghast, David remarks that someone will surely poach her.
- When Lilian finally returns, she claims that Marcie needed some TLC since things are not too good at home. After a short but strained conversation she bids Justin goodnight and heads for her lonely bed.
