Lilian is struggling to come to terms with Paul’s death. Peggy gives Emma the job as her cleaner.

  • Jill’s article in Borchester Echo will certainly give boost to the flower festival. Jennifer is, however, determined not to listen to Peggy’s news. She has had two applicants for a home help – Emma and also Tracy Horrobin. Jennifer is horrified at the thought of Tracy but Peggy is worried about Emma bringing Keira. Jennifer wants to sort things out but Peggy says she is quite capable. And she does solve it by giving Emma the job at slightly over the odds rates so she can pay Tracy to look after Keira.
  • Lilian is trying to cope at work when Matt decides to tease her by saying he has heard from Grace that Paul has died of a heart attack. “Poor bloke” says Matt. And then takes Lilian out for a walk. Lilian pretends to be sympathetic with Matt while knowing he doesn’t give a damn. She can’t help crying. Matt says he is sure he was a good bloke, just not his type. Matt says their holiday has come at just the right time.
  • Elona and Peggy have a last chat together and Peggy gives her a pearl necklace as a farewell present. She’ll always remember the good times she has had with Peggy and in Ambridge. It’s hard for the girls that she has left Darrell and that the girls will have to give up their own rooms again. Peggy says she can’t thank her enough for all she’s done for Jack. They’ve been through a lot together.
  • Lilian runs to Jolene and says she very nearly told Matt but managed not to. Perhaps she should have done, it can’t be worse than this. Lilian is still very sad but Jennifer can’t help but witter on about Emma at her. What on earth is she going to do? Jolene just says she’ll have to do the best she can. Lilian says it’s the awful suddenness and Jolene says she knows how that feels. No time to say goodbye. And she will have to keep the secret from Matt forever. How will she live with that?
