Lilian and Matt are both thinking about Paul but being very selective over what they say.

Radio Times: Pip is glad of a break, and Matt sees things more clearly.

  • Riding out on Spearmint, Lilian is not in a mood for a chat; her conversation with David is disjointed on account of her mind being elsewhere. Meanwhile Matt is taking a call from Paul’s daughter, Grace. She is sad that the brothers could not have known each other properly and she reveals an aspect of Paul of which Matt was unaware: he had high blood pressure, probably not helped by his possessive attitude over her mum re-marrying. She hopes Matt will be able to come to the funeral on Monday week – with his partner, of course.
  • Preparations are complete for Open Farm Sunday at Brookfield. Josh is a bit put out when Jill tells him that plans for his first Farmers’ Market coincide with mum’s birthday, Fathers’ Day too. Pip confides in her gran that Josh is being unbearable; she certainly ought to be able to recognise ‘unbearableness’ when she sees it.
  • Jill’s cakes sold out, went like hot cakes in fact, and Josh got rid of fourteen boxes of eggs. He announces his intention to back out of the Farmers’ Market commitment but Ruth and David won’t hear of it; they will have a family tea when he gets back. David passes on the comments he has received today about his charming and helpful children.
  • Lilian returns to find Matt subdued. He selectively relates Grace’s comments, particularly the one that no-one should die alone. If the comment makes Lilian uncomfortable, that’s probably what Matt had in mind.
