Lilian learns something of Justin’s family background. Matt Crawford returns.
Radio Times: Lilian gets a window on the past, and Kirsty needs to keep faith.
Characters: Justin, Kenton, Kirsty, Lilian, Lynda, Toby- Much to Kenton’s annoyance, Toby is using his role as barman to push the cause of Fairbrother gin to Lilian. Justin arrives to collect Lilian and admits that he found the gin distinctive. Now, there’s something he wants Lilian to see.
- Lynda offers praise to Kirsty for her recent deal over new beauty supplies. Kirsty plays it down; it’s hardly a career milestone. The job was only supposed to be temporary; now it’s back to Plan A – if only she could remember what that was. Lynda suggests that they lunch in the garden together.
- Justin’s destination is a little cottage, lovely except for the traffic going past. It has seen better days and is awaiting demolition. Having shared his background with Peggy, it’s now Lilian’s turn: the cottage was his late mother’s. He shares the details of his parents’ relationship. His father took his mother for granted. Justin doesn’t want to be that man. He wants her to understand how much it would mean to him, to be with Lilian – properly.
- Kirsty thinks there must be more to life than procuring beauty products and folding towels. She admires Lynda and her achievements. Lynda is sure that whatever Kirsty does it will be heartfelt.
- Kenton insists that Toby learns how to tap a new barrel. He and Jolene think they could market his gin locally, so they want to invest in the enterprise. There’s one tiny proviso: they want to call it Archer’s gin. No deal!
- Back at the Dower House, Lilian and Justin round off a wonderful day with a G&T. But they have a visitor. He has let himself in. It’s Matt Crawford.
