Radio Times: Kenton receives an ultimatum, and Matt attempts to keep a secret

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Lilian and Justin are having a heated discussion about the problems with the builder. Today, Justin is the one who is championing Philip while Lilian is irritated by the disruptions. Justin wants to go over to Bridge Farm to repair relations but Lilian is doubtful about that approach. They agree to have lunch at The Bull to discuss things.
  • Helen talks to David about the land deal. He implies doubts about the decision to Helen and she leaves quickly. David has come to The Bull for lunch on the house but Kenton is incredulous. David argues that he will have a free meal whenever he wishes or he will call in the whole debt right now.
  • Lilian tells Justin that she is seeing James next week and Justin will have a break. He wants to talk to Lilian about her birthday but she wants a quiet celebration with the two of them. Justin prefers the whole family but Lilian objects. Matt turns up with a woman who is ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ as per Lilian’s description. As Matt comes over to talk, it becomes clear that Justin wasn’t told that Matt rescued Lilian from her accident with Amir. Justin excuses himself and Matt points out that Lilian has lied to Justin about the fall. Lilian denies lying and she tries to get rid of Matt.
  • David compliments the sandwich although Toby tried to push his gin. Kenton has come up with a plan; Kenton and Jolene are setting up a standing order where a payment will come through every month. David challenges Kenton to set it up right now. Don’t you trust me, asks Kenton? Not really, David replies. Kenton finds that Jolene has already set up the standing order. Marrying Jolene was the best decision Kenton has ever made, declares David. Don’t I know it, Kenton admits ruefully.
  • Justin leaves the lunch abruptly with announcement of an appointment that he has forgotten. Kenton asks if the two of them have fallen out. Lilian admits that she hasn’t been very nice to Justin and she doesn’t know why. Matt comes up again to wish her a speedy recovery.
  • Justin meets with Helen and asks to meet with Tony and Pat about Lilian’s birthday. Helen abruptly informs him that they are out. Justin attempts to flatter Helen about her nomination but Helen asks if Bridge Farm is next in line for an aggressive takeover. As Justin demurs, Helen nastily announces that just because Justin is marrying her aunt, that doesn’t make him a part of the family. At the Dower House, Lilian asks Justin why he is home so soon. What happened to Justin’s meeting? He mumbles some excuse and Lilian asks what he is doing with the figurine. Just admiring it, Justin answers. Justin pleads with Lilian to tell him what the matter is. Is it the land deal? Lilian is sure her family will come round but Justin is worried about the effects on Lilian. Lilian claims this will all blow over and everything will be fine again.
