Lynda makes Justin make concessions over the pig unit and Justin is still being circumspect over the Bridge Farm proposals.
Radio Times: Lynda strikes a deal, and Kirsty makes amends
Characters: Brian, Jill, Justin, Kirsty, Lynda, Neil- Lynda had a great time in Italy – lots of sight seeing and reading. Kirsty brings her back down to earth by talking about the pig factory. Lynda is definitely up for the fight. She knows that it will be difficult. Since there is already planning permission for the dairy, they are most unlikely to refuse permission for pigs so they must focus on the key issues such as animal welfare.
- Neil and Lynda have a curious conversation about the importance of books during speed watch. They are having a quiet time so Lynda tries to get him interested in opposing the pig unit. Neil says he wouldn’t go on animal welfare or hygiene – they are both already well covered by regulations. He would focus on environmental issues and landscaping. And then Justin and Brian are caught by the speed camera. Justin tries to talk his way out of it. Miraculously, Lynda appears to agree – if they can find a time for Justin to meet her and Kirsty to discuss the pig unit, they’d all be happy wouldn’t they?
- Kirsty visits Brookfield to apologise to Jill. Jill is hostile at first but softens when Kirsty says she knows how much the Archers do for the environment. She invites Kirsty to help her collect some honey and says she thought she spoke well at the meeting. Another of Jill’s colony is suffering. There are so many pests on bees these days. Patrick is giving a talk about it at the WI. Jill isn’t sure if she will go. She is getting too old. Kirsty tries to convince her otherwise when she gets a call from Lynda to say the meeting is in half an hour.
- Justin tells Brian that he has found out that Matt’s operation seems to exist. Melling Enterprises or similar. Hugh Melling was at school with Miranda’s brother in law so that’s all right then. They talk about the pig unit and Brian says he’s been pestered by Lynda already. Justin says he will deal with her.
- Kirsty and Lynda insist on proper hardwood landscaping and Justin says there will be less traffic overall since the AD unit will be served by the pigs. After they’ve gone, Brian thinks it could have been worse. If they try to tick all the boxes on the list it should ease things. Justin refers to the need for another project – obviously the Bridge Farm houses though he won’t say. Brian is sure he’ll find out soon enough.
