  • Lynda and Robert are trying to tidy the garden before the opening. Robert cautions Lynda not to worry about Bert’s website; people will want to visit both gardens. Lynda decides to spend the funds received on public garden space. A text comes in from the insurance company with the requirements for the public opening. These strictures range from prominent signs noting that some plants may be harmful to a demand that the frontage to the River Am must be fenced off. It is a huge job and they can’t possibly get it done by the morning. Lynda puts in an emergency call to Eddie and demands he drop whatever he is doing and come erect fences immediately. Eddie answers that he is sorry but he is on another job, putting down a patio.
  • Tom visits Helen and is thrilled to meet baby Jack. He has tears in his eyes as he holds his nephew. This is all wrong, he cries. He observes that Helen looks tired. She must spend 8 pm to 8 am in her room alone with Jack and this makes it difficult to rest. It is clear that this harsh rule has contributed to Helen’s bond with Jack; she is much more comfortable with him than in the beginning.
  • Lynda shows up at Eddie’s jobsite and demands he leave the job now and do her work. He is appalled that she has shown up in someone’s garden. She offers to pay his usual rate plus 50%. To make up for the great personal inconvenience, Eddie asks Lynda to let Eddie and Joe promote their hut building business. Lynda is outraged and Eddie replies take it or leave it. Suit herself.
  • Tom fills Helen in on all the goings on with the shop and farm. He also tells her about the diversion of the proposed road through Ambridge. Tom calls Helen very brave and says everyone thinks so. Has Helen made any friends, asks Tom? Yes, answers Helen, there is Kaz and Helen points her out. Tom is clearly taken aback but stammers that Kaz looks nice. Helen confides in Tom that she is dreading the testimony that she must give because Rob will be there. Helen is so frightened but last night she held onto Jack and that gave her strength. She can’t get it wrong for Jack’s sake. Tom reminds Helen that she is safe and Rob can’t get to her.
  • Bert meets Eddie at the builder’s supply. Eddie has come to pick up more sand for the patio he is installing and Bert is collecting more gravel. Bert is a bit taken aback when Eddie declares that he hopes Bert beats Lynda Snell into last place. It isn’t a competition, stammers Bert, but Eddie criticizes Lynda for giving him grief.
  • Lynda is distressed; she has rung every builder she could find. Robert tells Lynda to step outside. Bert, Toby and Rex are working away on the garden. Bert knows how much work Lynda has put into the garden and he doesn’t want it to go to waste. They’ll work well into the evening if need be. The garden will open as planned.
