  • Great news! Joe has had a call: Grey Gables have offered £3000. His hand feels better already. Eddie is elated but when Ed hears, he sows a seed of doubt: would they get even more if they hung on a bit longer? If grandad is happy, then he is too. Grandad is over the moon and, since it is his money, he opts not push their luck.
  • To apply or not apply, that is the question that is exercising Lynda’s mind. The assistant manager job is a long awaited opportunity to show what she can do. Robert is supportive but puts a different point of view: he is concerned about how much it would take out of Lynda if she put her heart and soul into it – which is the only way she knows. What will be left for village theatricals, for little Oscar and to be Robert’s companion in his declining years. There’s much to mull over so a walk with Scruff is called for.
  • Lynda encounters Ed putting up more notices about dogs. Never mind keeping dogs on leads, he would rather people did not exercise their dogs here at all. What? Not use a public footpath? That’s a big ask for a campaigner like Lynda. After some initial resistance she agrees not to walk Scruff here in future; furthermore she will explain to others why they shouldn’t either. Ed is surprised and grateful.
  • Meanwhile Robert has a visitor: Kathy is having second thoughts about her Felpersham job, but she wouldn’t apply for the Grey Gables job if Lynda is going to. When Lynda returns she has done her thinking and announces that she has decided against applying. Robert is pleased and the way is clear for Kathy to apply.
